Why CLP

Structural Integrity

A CLP rod system utilizes domestic steel rods to transfer wind loads from the roof truss in a direct path to the slab. Whether you are installing an unrestrained system or one restrained at each floor, using cast in place anchors or epoxy anchors, you gain the confidence that comes with a solid connection from top to bottom. Because the system installs from the interior and is tightened after the structure is fully loaded, the concerns associated with exterior straps buckling or bowing after the building has settled are eliminated. The CLP system replaces the holdowns and most of the exterior strapping which make up conventional shear wall holdown designs. On wood frame projects where wood shrinkage is a concern, compensation for shrinkage can be accomplished be using Take-Up Devices (TUD’s). The bottom line, a CLP system is the preferred choice of Owner/Developers and General Contractors for long term strength and structural integrity.

Signed and Sealed Shop Drawings

Our staff includes a registered P.E. producing signed and sealed shop drawings that serve as a clear guide for installation and inspection. Maintaining connectivity with leading Architects and Structural Engineers across the U.S. assures our clients of a smooth and efficient substitution process when CLP is not specified in the plans.

Fast and Easy Installation

Whether self-performing installation of the CLP System or subcontracting the installation to a hardware installer, the simplicity and speed of installing the CLP System becomes very evident, when compared to alternative systems. The need for man-lift equipment and fall protection to install exterior strapping is eliminated. Exterior strapping also presents the challenge of stud alignment from floor to floor, leading to additional time and material to install additional studs to assure proper alignment for strapping. The CLP system consists of fewer components which greatly reduces the volume and variance of material compared to a conventional holdown package, resulting in easier on site material management.

Efficient Inspection

Inspecting for proper installation of a CLP system is as simple as confirming locations and embedment. Rods are hand tightened, eliminating the need for special equipment or tools to meet specific torque requirements. The CLP System has fewer points to inspect and eliminates the need to access exterior elements unlike conventional designs. Thus, the CLP system becomes a much easier inspection for both contractors and inspection officials.

Costs Savings

A CLP rod system eliminates the majority of holdowns, strapping, nails and other accompanying hardware utilized by conventional system. Significant material and labor savings are important and are regular elements of a CLP proposal.
